Why this page exists
Some of the content on this website contains affiliate links. This page explains plainly what that means, how it works, and what it does and does not change for you. We would rather tell you this openly than bury it in a footer nobody reads.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link to a product or service sold by another company. If you click it and go on to buy something, that company may pay us a small commission for referring you.
You never pay more because of an affiliate link. The commission comes out of the seller’s margin, not out of your pocket. The price you pay is the same as it would be if you had found the product yourself.
Where these links appear
Affiliate links appear in editorial content: buying guides, comparison articles and blog posts where we recommend products we do not sell ourselves. They do not appear in our own product listings. Anything you buy directly from our store is sold by us, not through an affiliate arrangement.
Where an article contains affiliate links, we say so at the top of that article rather than only here.
How this affects what we recommend
This is the part that actually matters, so we will be direct about it.
We do not recommend a product because it pays a higher commission. When we compare products, we try to describe what each one is genuinely good and bad at, including the cases where the cheaper option is the sensible choice or where we think you should not buy any of them. A recommendation that only ever says yes is worthless to you, and eventually worthless to us as well.
We will also tell you when we have not personally tested something. Much of the information available about consumer products online is rewritten from manufacturer marketing copy and presented as a review. Where our assessment is based on specifications, supplier information and published reviews rather than hands-on use, we will say so.
Our own products
Products sold in our shop are sold by AKNB Global directly. We source them from international suppliers and ship them to you. We make our margin on the sale itself, which is an obvious commercial interest, and you should read our own product descriptions with that in mind, exactly as you would with any retailer.
Sponsored content
If we ever publish content that has been paid for by a third party, or feature a product supplied to us free of charge, we will label it clearly and prominently within that content. We will not present paid placement as independent opinion.
Our affiliate programme
We may in future run an affiliate programme allowing others to earn commission by referring customers to us. If we do, the same principle applies in reverse: affiliates promoting our products are required to disclose that relationship to their own audiences, and are not permitted to make claims about our products that we have not made ourselves.
